Your surgeon gave your procedure every bit of skill and attention it deserved. But once you're home, recovery is largely on you — and most patients are surprised by how little guidance comes with it. Swelling that won't settle. Tightness nobody warned you about. Results that don't quite match what you imagined. That gap is exactly where TheraFlow Health lives. We are the structured, clinical aftercare that turns a good surgery into a great outcome.
A step-by-step recovery plan — starting as early as 48 hours after your procedure. Built around your surgeon's protocol. Focused on your results.
Lymphatic health, chronic illness, oncology support, and pregnancy care. We meet you where you are and build a plan that fits your life.
One therapist. Every visit. 75 minutes. No rotating staff, no rushing, no guessing. Just deeply skilled, personalized care every single time.
Most patients come to us not knowing what comes after surgery. Here it is — a clear, step-by-step plan that supports your body through every stage of healing.
We start moving fluid right away. Swelling goes down faster. Bruising fades sooner. You start feeling like yourself again.
Learn More →We make sure your garments fit properly and that you know how to wear them. Worn incorrectly, they can slow your results down — not speed them up.
Learn More →Strategic foam placement smooths uneven areas and helps protect the shape your surgeon worked so hard to create.
Learn More →Hard spots, tight bands, uneven texture. This is advanced work — and it's where good results become great ones. Most patients don't even know it exists until they come to us.
Learn More →Surgery recovery is our specialty — but it's not the only thing we do. Tell us what you're dealing with and we'll take it from there.
BBL, liposuction, tummy tuck, breast surgery, C-section, face and neck. We pick up where your surgeon left off and see your recovery all the way through.
See your plan →Feeling puffy, sluggish, or just off? Your lymphatic system moves fluid, supports your immune function, and keeps your body working properly. We help it do its job.
Learn more →Lymphedema, cancer-related care, palliative support, pregnancy. We meet you exactly where you are — with no rushing and no judgment. Just care that fits your life.
Learn more →You don't need a surgery or a diagnosis to benefit from this. Ongoing lymphatic care helps your body stay balanced, your immune system stay strong, and you feel your best.
Learn more →Eva Tutic spent 13+ years working alongside plastic surgeons in surgical recovery. She understands how the process works — and she knows exactly where patients are left without support once they go home.
She has also been a patient herself. That experience lives in every session she gives. She built TheraFlow Health because she saw the gap — and knew she could fill it the right way.
When you come to TheraFlow Health, you are not getting a chain spa or a general wellness practice. You are getting a credentialed clinician who has seen exactly what you are going through — and knows precisely what to do next.
"After my tummy tuck I was so swollen and uncomfortable. After just one session with Eva I felt immediate relief. She explained everything, I knew exactly what was happening, and I felt completely at ease. I wish I had found her sooner."
"I came to Eva after my BBL and lipo. She truly cares — I could feel it. I noticed a huge difference in my swelling and my results. She is in a league of her own and I cannot recommend her enough."
"The most thorough lymphatic therapist I have ever been to. Eva takes her time, explains the process, and genuinely invests in your healing. She does not rush. My results speak for themselves."

Plain language guidance for patients and caregivers. No fluff, no spam — ever.
How humanitarian work, patient care, and my own recovery experiences shaped the heart behind TheraFlow Health.
Before moving to the United States, Eva was living a completely different life. Based in England and working as a Global Project Manager across EMEA, it was a strong career — professional, international, structured, and respected. Her last major project took her to East Africa, where she spent a significant and transformative chapter of her life and helped support the development of a global aid and relief center in Kenya.
That work mattered. She had the opportunity to work alongside organizations like the United Nations and other NGOs, and it felt meaningful to be part of something larger than herself. But if she is honest, the work that changed her most was not her formal role.
It was what happened outside of it.
"When life becomes that simple and that clear. When what matters is no longer title, status, or career progression — but dignity. Relief. Access. Education. Care."
She spent time visiting the slums, helping where she could, raising money, and bringing practical support directly to people who needed it. Sometimes the need was even more basic than she could have imagined.
She was 38 years old, and she knew she wanted a different kind of life. Not necessarily an easier one. Not even a clearer one. But a more human one — rooted in compassion, empathy, and service. Work where she could help someone understand something they did not know, navigate something frightening, or feel less alone in a vulnerable moment.
Years later, that same thread found her again in patient care.
She began working closely in the world of plastic surgery and recovery, and once again found herself drawn to people in vulnerable transitions. This time, it looked like swelling, scar tissue, discomfort, confusion, and all the invisible emotional weight that comes with healing.
What struck her most was not just the surgery itself. It was what happened after.
Patients went home carrying so much more than discharge instructions could ever address. They were swollen, uncomfortable, overwhelmed, and often frightened by what they were feeling in their own bodies. Many were undereducated about recovery and left to figure out far too much on their own.
"Recovery was being treated like an afterthought, when in reality it was one of the most important parts of the entire process."
Different setting. Same truth. People need more than rushed information. They need support. They need education. They need care that feels calm, grounded, and human.
That is what led Eva deeper into lymphatic work, post-operative recovery, compression guidance, scar support, and patient education. And that is what led her to build TheraFlow Health.
She did not build it because it was trendy. She built it because she could see the gap.
By the time Eva had her back fusion surgery, TheraFlow Health already existed. Her own surgery did not create her mission — but it absolutely confirmed it.
She has also experienced plastic surgery herself, which gave her its own understanding of vulnerability and recovery. But the back fusion changed her in a quieter, deeper way. It reminded her what it feels like to become the patient. To feel fragile, exposed, and uncertain inside your own body.
"I remember knowing very clearly that Manual Lymphatic Drainage was something that could have supported me after surgery — and yet it was never mentioned. That stayed with me. Because sometimes life lets you witness a problem professionally. And sometimes it asks you to live it personally. When that happens, it changes the way you show up."
Today, when Eva sits with patients, she brings more than technique into the room. She brings knowledge, yes — but also lived empathy. She knows what it is to witness vulnerability, and she knows what it is to live inside it.
ERAPS — Enhanced Recovery After Plastic Surgery — is a structured post-surgical recovery protocol co-created by Eva Tutic and a board-certified plastic surgeon. It integrates clinical MLD, compression therapy, scar management, and patient education into a cohesive, evidence-informed framework.
ERAPS was developed from years of clinical observation — recognizing that post-surgical patients needed more than a single modality. They needed a structured, progressive protocol that addressed swelling, tissue healing, scar remodeling, and patient education in a coordinated way.
Every TheraFlow Health patient benefits from the ERAPS framework — not a generic massage protocol, but a clinically developed approach to post-surgical healing.
If there is one thread that has run through every chapter of Eva's life, it is this: she has always been pulled toward people in vulnerable moments.
In East Africa, that looked like filling a suitcase with medicine and bringing books and supplies to people who had very little.
In her work today, it looks like helping someone feel less afraid of what is happening in their body.
"Different lives. Different settings.
Same calling."
"She was the first person who truly showed me the power of touch. Not the power to fix. Not the power to save. But the power to help someone let go."

Her time in East Africa was a significant and transformative chapter of her life — one that shaped her belief that healing is most powerful when it is both skilled and deeply human. That experience reinforced what she had seen in clinical practice: that the body responds not just to technique, but to presence, patience, and genuine care.
Today, with over 13 years of experience and advanced lymphatic training, Eva brings a unique blend of expertise, compassion, and advocacy to every client she serves. She is known for her thoughtful approach, attention to detail, and commitment to making recovery feel less overwhelming and more supported.

Structured, anatomy-driven lymphatic management beginning at 48 hours post-op — with surgeon clearance — to support swelling management and recovery during the most critical window of healing.
Book Post-Surgical MLDContact TheraFlow Health if you experience persistent dizziness, shortness of breath, chest pain, signs of infection, sudden increase in swelling, or any response that feels unusual. In a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.
MLD is a medically guided modality. Booking an appointment does not guarantee eligibility. All treatment decisions are based on clinical assessment, safety considerations, and available documentation.
All post-surgical MLD services at TheraFlow Health require documented surgeon or physician clearance prior to your first appointment. Clearance documentation must be received at least 24 hours before your session. This policy ensures your safety and allows Eva to plan treatment around your specific surgical protocol.
After any surgical procedure — liposuction, BBL, tummy tuck, rhinoplasty, mastectomy, breast augmentation, or joint replacement — your lymphatic system is overwhelmed. Without proper drainage, fibrosis (hardened scar tissue) can set in permanently. If fibrosis has already formed, addresses it directly.
Post-surgical MLD uses precise, light-pressure techniques to manually support lymphatic flow, moving excess fluid back into circulation and out of the body. Sessions are targeted to the surgical site and surrounding drainage pathways.
"MLD may begin as early as 48 hours post-operatively — with surgeon clearance — to support the lymphatic system during the earliest and most critical phase of healing."
— Eva Tutic, CLT CPST, TheraFlow Health
Opens lymphatic pathways, clears fluid congestion, and prepares tissue to accept and maintain compression.
Custom-cut foam placed after MLD to maintain cleared pathways, target fibrotic zones, and create pressure gradients the garment alone cannot achieve.
Sustains physiologic gains between sessions and preserves surgical contour throughout recovery. Neither MLD nor compression works optimally in isolation.
Sessions are 75 minutes: approximately 60 minutes hands-on MLD + 15 minutes clinical documentation, measurement, and home care guidance.
Compression garments, foam applications, scar support, and other recovery tools — all guided by Eva at each visit. Your care does not stop when you leave the room.

Sessions may also include moist heat application, oscillation and vibration therapy, and targeted decompression — all selected based on your tissue presentation that day. Every session begins with MLD to prepare the tissue before hands-on scar work begins.
Sessions may also include: heat therapy using medical-grade hydrocollator moist heat · oscillation and vibration therapy · targeted decompression therapy · lymphatic cupping · gua sha · kinesiology taping · red light therapy · cryotherapy · silicone scar support · CBD oil (Stage 2)
Scar tissue is most responsive during the remodeling phase — 6 weeks to 2 years post-procedure. The sooner treatment begins within this window, the better.
Even older scars often respond. It is rarely too late.
Fibrosis is hardened scar tissue that forms when post-surgical inflammatory fluid isn't adequately cleared during recovery. It often feels like firm lumps, resistance, or unevenness under the skin. Advanced Scar & Tissue Therapy uses specialized manual techniques — lymphatic cupping, gua sha, moist heat, and more — to soften fibrotic tissue and restore normal texture and mobility. Tissue changes are often noticeable within the first session.
Banding presents as tight, cord-like tissue beneath the skin — often pulling or restricting movement in areas treated with liposuction or BBL. It is a form of scar tissue formation and responds well to targeted manual therapy. At TheraFlow Health, banding is assessed at your first appointment and treated as part of a structured, progressive plan.
The optimal window for scar therapy is typically 6 weeks post-procedure onward, through the tissue remodeling phase which can last up to 2 years. Surgeon clearance is required before beginning. In the weeks before scar therapy starts, post-surgical MLD addresses acute swelling and reduces the risk of fibrosis forming in the first place — making scar therapy easier and more effective when it begins.
Not necessarily. Scar tissue is most responsive to treatment during the remodeling phase — roughly 6 weeks to 2 years post-procedure. Specialized manual therapy can significantly improve the texture, mobility, and appearance of surgical scars during this window. Even older scars often respond. It is rarely too late to start.
Yes. All post-surgical tissue and scar therapy at TheraFlow Health requires documented physician clearance prior to your first appointment. Please bring any post-operative instructions or clearance documentation from your surgical team to your first session.

Medical-grade compression garment fitting, foam therapy, and stage-by-stage guidance throughout your post-surgical recovery.
Book a Compression ConsultationThe phrase "medical grade" has no regulated legal definition in the United States. A garment without a validated mmHg compression rating cannot provide predictable therapeutic pressure — regardless of how it is marketed. This is precisely why a Certified Lymphedema Therapist performs your fitting.
Every compression garment at TheraFlow Health is a medical-grade, FDA Class I listed device with a validated mmHg compression rating sized to your actual body measurements.
"Surgery is only the first step in your transformation. Recovery is where the real results — and the real healing — happen."
Foam therapy is one of the most misunderstood and underused tools in post-surgical recovery. Most patients receive a generic piece of foam in their surgical kit and are told to wear it. What they are rarely told is why, where, how, or for how long — and getting those details wrong can slow results significantly.
At TheraFlow Health, foam application is a deliberate, anatomy-specific clinical decision made at each visit based on where fluid is pooling, where fibrosis risk is highest, and what your surgeon's protocol requires. It is never generic.
Foam creates a consistent, distributed pressure gradient over irregular tissue contours that a compression garment alone cannot achieve. A garment compresses globally. Foam targets specifically — directing pressure precisely where it is needed to move fluid, prevent fibrotic hardening, and smooth uneven areas beneath the skin.
Used correctly in the first weeks after surgery, foam helps protect the results your surgeon created. Used incorrectly — wrong density, wrong placement, wrong stage — it can impede drainage or create additional pressure problems.
Used to treat hollow areas of the body that do not receive targeted compression from a garment — the flanks, lower back, chest, and other contoured zones. Because garments cannot conform perfectly to irregular body shapes, Lipo Foam fills these gaps and ensures consistent pressure coverage across the full surgical area. Gentle enough for use from 48 hours post-op with surgeon clearance.
A thin, dense foam (¼ to ½ inch thick) applied to all general surgery patients and lymphedema patients alike. Placed beneath compression, it helps redistribute swelling, assists with lymphatic flow, and addresses early fibrotic tissue. Applied in conjunction with Rosidal bandaging when needed, it provides structured, adaptable pressure that supports the lymphatic system in moving fluid more effectively — making it one of the most broadly used foam types in post-surgical care.
Introduced in Stage 2 (weeks 4–6 onward) specifically for fibrotic and scar tissue. Its unique cell structure creates a therapeutic micromovement against hardened tissue during normal daily activity, helping to break down and soften the dense, fibrotic areas that form after surgery. Selected for patients who have or are at high risk of significant scar tissue or fibrosis.
Most patients are handed foam on the way out of the OR and left to figure it out alone. Foam worn in the wrong location, at the wrong density, or for the wrong duration can impede drainage instead of supporting it. Eva reassesses placement at every session — because your tissue changes every week, and your foam should too.
Zippers look like the easiest option — but they consistently perform worst in post-surgical recovery. Pulling a zipper against acutely swollen, tender tissue is extremely difficult and often impossible in the first week. The zipper also creates a single rigid tension line that concentrates pressure beneath the closure while leaving adjacent tissue under-compressed.
Side hook-and-eye closures distribute tension evenly and are significantly more comfortable after abdominoplasty or abdominal liposuction.
Body garments: 15–30 mmHg. Bras and upper-body garments: 15–20 mmHg. If a garment does not disclose its mmHg value, its therapeutic pressure cannot be reliably predicted.

If you've recently had surgery, been dealing with persistent swelling, or heard your doctor mention "lymphatic drainage," you've probably found yourself wondering: what actually is Manual Lymphatic Drainage, and do I really need it? This guide answers that — in plain language, without the fluff.
Your lymphatic system is a network of vessels, nodes, and organs that runs parallel to your circulatory system throughout your entire body. Unlike blood, which is pumped by your heart, lymph fluid moves only when your muscles contract and your body moves. The system has three main jobs: filtering waste and toxins from your tissues, fighting infection through immune cells, and maintaining fluid balance throughout your body.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specialized, light-touch massage technique developed in the 1930s by Danish physicians Emil and Estrid Vodder. It uses very specific, rhythmic movements — applied with extremely light pressure — to manually support lymphatic flow just beneath the skin, encouraging excess fluid to drain back into the lymphatic network and eventually be filtered and eliminated.
True MLD is a medical-grade technique requiring specialized certification. The pressure is far lighter than Swedish or deep tissue massage. The sequencing follows the anatomy of the lymphatic system, not muscle groups. At TheraFlow Health, Eva holds Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) and Certified Plastic Surgery Therapist (CPST) credentials and has trained specifically in post-surgical and oncology lymphatic care.
This depends entirely on your situation. Post-surgical clients in the acute phase typically benefit from sessions every 2–3 days. As swelling resolves, frequency decreases. For a detailed breakdown by procedure, read our Post-Op Session Guide.

It's one of the most common questions Eva gets from new post-surgical clients: "How many sessions do I actually need?" The honest answer is that it depends on your procedure, your body, how soon you started treatment, and your recovery goals.
The early phase after surgery is an important window for lymphatic support. Without adequate drainage, fluid may accumulate in the surgical area, potentially contributing to prolonged swelling, bruising, and the conditions associated with fibrosis.
Many clients benefit from sessions every few days in the first two weeks, tapering as healing progresses. The total number of sessions varies depending on your procedure, healing response, and surgeon protocol — Eva will outline a personalized plan at your first appointment.
BBL involves both lipo donor sites and fat transfer recipient sites. Because multiple areas are treated, many clients benefit from an intensive early phase of care — the specific number of sessions depends on your individual healing response and surgeon guidance.
Seroma (fluid pockets) are a possible complication following abdominoplasty. Early lymphatic support, when cleared by your surgeon, may help support fluid management during recovery. Sessions are planned based on individual healing needs.
The number of sessions varies depending on the scope of surgery and healing response. Eva will assess and recommend a personalized plan at your consultation.
Many rhinoplasty clients see meaningful improvement with early MLD sessions in the first two weeks. The specific number of sessions depends on individual healing needs.
Starting MLD weeks or months after surgery is still worth doing. Fibrosis can be addressed with . It's never too late to support your recovery — you'll just need more sessions than if you'd started early.
Don't wait — earlier treatment means better results.

Most people think of the lymphatic system only when something has obviously gone wrong — after surgery, or when a doctor mentions lymphedema. But your lymphatic system works (or struggles) every single day, and the signs of a sluggish or overwhelmed system are often mistaken for unrelated issues.
Waking up with a puffy face? Shoes feeling tighter in the evening? Chronic, low-level swelling — especially when it varies with hydration, activity, and diet — is one of the most common signs of lymphatic congestion.
When your lymphatic system is sluggish, metabolic waste products linger in your tissues longer than they should, and your immune system is in a constant low-level state of activation. The result: a fatigue that feels deep, persistent, and unresponsive to rest.
If you catch everything that's going around and take longer than others to get over it, your lymphatic and immune systems may be under-resourced.
When your lymphatic system isn't clearing waste efficiently, the body tries to push toxins out through the skin instead. This can manifest as chronic breakouts, skin dullness, rough texture, or eczema flares.
Difficulty concentrating, poor short-term memory, a sense of mental sluggishness — these are increasingly recognized as signs of systemic inflammation, closely tied to lymphatic function.
Lymphatic congestion can contribute to bloating, slow transit, and general digestive discomfort, particularly after eating high-fat or inflammatory foods.
The good news is that the lymphatic system responds well to targeted support. Regular MLD sessions are the most direct intervention. If you're in Virginia Beach or the surrounding Hampton Roads area and recognize several of these signs in yourself, a lymphatic wellness consultation with Eva at TheraFlow Health is a great starting point.

We live in a world that asks us to be strong all the time. To push through. To keep going. To perform. To hold it together.
And when life feels uncertain, overwhelming, or unsafe, the body does what it has always done to survive: it holds. It holds tension. It holds breath. It holds fatigue. It holds emotion. And sometimes, it holds physically too — in the form of swelling, heaviness, tightness, pain, and a deep sense that the body is carrying more than it knows how to release.
We often think of these symptoms as signs that something has gone wrong. But sometimes, they are signs that the body is doing exactly what it was designed to do: protect.
Before we ever learned language, we understood touch. A mother's touch told us we were safe. A hand on our back told us we belonged. Touch was our first experience of comfort, regulation, and connection. That has not changed.
Even now, in adulthood, the body still responds to safe, steady, intentional touch in profound ways. And yet, one of the first things we lose in hard times is touch. We hesitate. We pull back. We live behind screens. We become overstimulated, emotionally guarded, and physically braced.
We can see this clearly in our pets. When a dog senses distress, it comes closer. When a cat senses sadness, it curls up near the body. They do not try to explain, fix, or analyze. They stay.
Animals instinctively understand the power of presence and touch. They lean in, rest against us, and help regulate us simply by being near. This is not complicated. It is ancient. It is biological. It is deeply human.
This is why Manual Lymphatic Drainage, or MLD, matters so much. MLD is not forceful. It is not harsh. It is not about overpowering the body. It is a gentle, intentional form of touch that meets the body where it is.
For many people — especially after surgery, during recovery, or in periods of high stress — the body does not need more force. It needs permission. It needs a signal that it no longer has to brace so tightly.
When the body feels safe, things begin to shift. Swelling can soften. Heaviness can ease. Breathing can deepen. Sleep can improve. The entire system can begin to move out of protection and into release.
In my work, I have come to see swelling differently. Swelling is not always failure. Sometimes it is protection. After surgery, the body is processing trauma, fluid shifts, inflammation, and change. In other cases, chronic stress, pain, illness, immobility, or nervous system overload can create a body that feels as if it is constantly on guard.
The answer is not always to force the body into submission. Sometimes healing begins when we stop asking the body to fight harder — and begin asking what it needs in order to feel safe enough to let go.
The body knows the difference between being handled and being held. That difference matters. There is a kind of care that feels rushed, corrective, and impersonal. And there is a kind of care that says: You can soften now. You do not have to hold everything anymore.
When I opened my own practice in August 2023, I had all the fears that come with starting something new. Would anyone come? Would I make it? Was I ready?
Then I received my very first appointment request. It was not from the patient herself, but from her daughter. She told me that her mother was dying from a rare kidney cancer. They did not know how much time she had left — days, maybe weeks. Her mother was a beautiful human being. The kind of person who had touched many lives long before she ever met me.
After her first Manual Lymphatic Drainage session, her daughter booked another appointment. Then another. And then every day. On the days I was not there, she asked for me.
Her daughters told me how grateful they were — not simply because of the appointment itself, but because of how their mother seemed afterward. She rested more easily. Her body softened. She looked peaceful.
The very next day, her daughter called to tell me her mother had passed. She told me how much her mother had asked about me, and when her next appointment would be. That evening, her body finally allowed her to drift off peacefully.
She was the first person who truly showed me the power of touch. Not the power to fix. Not the power to save. But the power to help someone let go.
We are living in a world where many people are carrying too much. Too much stress. Too much fear. Too much pressure. Too much silence. Too much responsibility. And the body keeps the score in its own quiet way.
This is why gentle touch matters. This is why Manual Lymphatic Drainage matters. This is why presence matters. Not because touch is indulgent. Not because gentleness is weak. But because sometimes the most healing thing we can offer another human being is the experience of not having to hold everything alone.

Most patients who come to me after surgery have heard of Manual Lymphatic Drainage. Their surgeon mentioned it, a friend recommended it, or they found it while researching how to recover faster. They know MLD helps with swelling, and they know starting early matters.
What far fewer patients know is that swelling management is only the beginning.
Complete post-surgical recovery has three distinct phases — and the third one, Advanced Scar & Tissue Therapy, is the step that most patients either never learn about, start too late, or skip entirely. It is also, in my clinical experience, the one that makes the difference between a good result and a great one.
In the first days and weeks after surgery, the lymphatic system is overwhelmed. Surgical trauma floods the area with inflammatory fluid, and without proper drainage, that fluid begins to solidify — laying the groundwork for fibrosis, prolonged swelling, and contour irregularities. If fibrosis does form, is the third pillar that addresses it directly.
This is where Manual Lymphatic Drainage comes in. Performed within 48–72 hours of surgery when cleared by your surgeon, MLD uses gentle, rhythmic techniques to manually guide excess fluid away from the surgical site and back into active lymphatic circulation.
As the acute phase resolves, the work shifts. Swelling decreases, bruising fades, and the surgical area begins to stabilize. This is the bridge phase — where ongoing lymphatic support continues the progress from Pillar One and prepares the tissue for what comes next.
During this phase, sessions support sustained lymphatic flow as the body transitions out of acute recovery, immune function and systemic support, compression and garment guidance as fitting needs evolve, and monitoring for early signs of fibrosis or tissue changes that indicate Pillar Three work is needed.
For patients who began MLD early, this phase is smoother. For patients arriving for the first time weeks post-op, this phase becomes the starting point — still valuable, still effective, but working against more resistance than if treatment had begun earlier.
This is the phase most patients do not know exists — and the one I want to talk about most directly.
Scar tissue forms wherever the skin heals from a surgical incision or trauma. In the best-case scenario, that scar tissue is flat, soft, mobile, and barely noticeable. In reality, many post-surgical patients are left with tissue that is:
These are not signs that something went wrong. They are normal tissue responses to surgical healing. But they are also treatable — especially during the remodeling phase, which runs from approximately 6 weeks to 2 years post-procedure.
Every session begins with MLD. This is not incidental — preparing the lymphatic tissue before hands-on scar work makes the treatment safer and more effective. It is the reason Pillar Three cannot be cleanly separated from Pillars One and Two.
Following MLD, a multimodal approach is tailored to the specific tissue presentation:
Patients who come in with established fibrosis or banding often leave their first scar therapy session feeling something they did not expect: a change. Not a subtle, gradual shift they might notice over weeks — but an immediate softening, a release of tension, or a restoration of movement that was not there when they walked in.
The reason this three-pillar framework — formalized as part of the ERAPS protocol — matters is that each phase sets up the next. MLD in the acute phase reduces the volume of fibrosis that scar therapy will eventually need to address. Lymphatic stabilization maintains the progress and monitors for emerging tissue changes. Scar therapy addresses what remains with precision tools and trained hands.
Skipping Pillar One doesn't make Pillars Two and Three impossible — it makes them harder. And skipping Pillar Three entirely means leaving real results on the table, often permanently.
If you are more than 6 weeks post-surgery and you are experiencing any of the following, scar therapy may be appropriate for you:
Surgeon clearance is required before beginning. It is also not too late if you are months into recovery. The remodeling window is long. The tissue is still responsive. The work is still worth doing.

At the heart of this work is one simple belief: the body heals best when it feels safe.
We live in a world that often encourages people to push through pain, ignore what their body is asking for, and treat healing like something that should happen on command. But the body does not always respond to force. More often, it responds to safety, support, presence, and time.
At TheraFlow Health, we believe the body is always communicating. Swelling, heaviness, tightness, fatigue, and discomfort are not always signs that something has gone wrong. Often, they are signs that the body is working hard to protect, adapt, and recover.
Our role is not simply to treat symptoms. Our role is to listen, assess, support, and help create the conditions where healing becomes possible.
Every person who walks through our doors brings more than a procedure or diagnosis. They bring a story, a nervous system, a healing history, fears, hopes, and a body that deserves to be approached with dignity. That is why our philosophy is rooted in care that is both clinical and compassionate.
Listening before rushing
Education before overwhelm
Presence before pressure
Skilled care without losing humanity
Touch is one of the first ways human beings experience safety and connection. Long before language, the body understands presence. Gentle, intentional care can help support comfort, release, regulation, and restoration — and help the body shift out of a guarded state and into a place where healing can begin.
"Before we understood language, we understood touch. A mother's hand. A comforting embrace. A quiet presence that said: you are safe here. That truth does not disappear with age."
For one person, progress may look like less swelling. For another, it may look like reduced discomfort, improved mobility, deeper rest, or simply feeling more supported in the recovery process. We honor those differences. We believe in thoughtful care tailored to the person in front of us.
"No one should feel dismissed, confused, or alone in their recovery. We believe people deserve clear guidance, professional support, and care that respects both the intelligence of the body and the emotional reality of healing."
Because healing is not just about reducing symptoms.
It is about helping people feel supported, informed, and safe enough to let go of what the body has been holding.

A note from Eva on tipping culture, patient care, and why the price is always the price at TheraFlow Health.
There is something I have wanted to say for a while, and I want to say it carefully because I know tipping is a sensitive subject.
At TheraFlow Health, I do not accept tips.
Not because I am ungrateful. Not because I do not appreciate kindness. Not because I do not understand that people want to say thank you. I do. In fact, I am deeply touched when someone wants to give more. It usually comes from a beautiful place.
But I still do not accept tips. And the reason is simple:
I do not want my patients to feel that their care requires an extra emotional or financial transaction at the end.
There was a time when tipping felt more optional. More personal. More connected to hospitality. Now, tipping seems to follow us everywhere — coffee shops, takeout counters, drive-through windows, online checkouts, retail purchases, service appointments.
The moment I really noticed how far it had gone was when even the landscaper asked for a tip. Then the Starbucks drive-through screen. And I kept thinking: when did every transaction start to feel like an emotional test?
Workers should be paid fairly through the business model — not by making every customer feel personally responsible for fixing a broken wage system one awkward checkout screen at a time. And that is what I do not want in my own practice.
The part that feels especially uncomfortable is that the lowest suggested tip is often 20%. Not 10%. Not 15%. Many screens now start at 20% and go up from there. And when the service itself is already expensive, that tip is not small.
A hair appointment with color and styling can easily cost $200 or more. A 20% tip on that is another $40. If the appointment is $300, that becomes $60. That can be groceries. Gas. Part of a utility bill. A compression garment or a prescription someone actually needs for recovery.
And yet people are made to feel guilty if they hesitate. That is where tipping culture has lost its way. Gratitude should never feel like financial pressure.
My work is not a casual transaction. Manual Lymphatic Drainage, post-operative recovery care, lymphedema support, scar and tissue therapy — this is deeply personal work. Patients come to me after surgery, during swelling, during discomfort, during uncertainty, during vulnerability.
When someone is in that state, I do not want them thinking about tipping etiquette. I want them thinking about healing. I want them to feel safe asking questions. I want them to know they are not being rushed, judged, sold to, or silently evaluated based on whether they added gratuity.
My care does not change based on tips. So I removed tipping completely.
When I set my fees, I do so with intention. My price reflects my training, my experience, my time, my continuing education, the clinical supplies I use, the documentation I provide, the emotional presence required, and the years I have spent working with surgical patients.
I do not price my services expecting a tip. I do not undercharge and hope the patient makes up the difference. You paid for your care. That is enough.
TheraFlow Health has a 3% merchant processing surcharge for credit card payments. That is not a tip. It is the processing cost associated with accepting credit card payments, disclosed separately. Tips are optional emotional add-ons. A processing surcharge is a payment-method fee. Those are not the same thing. Your care is never based on whether someone pays extra.
One of the most beautiful lessons I have learned in this work is that gratitude shows up in many forms. A kind review. A referral. A message saying, "I felt so much better after I left." A patient trusting me enough to come back. A woman telling me, "You made me feel less alone."
That means more to me than a tip ever could. If someone truly wants to support my work, the best way is to share it with someone who needs it — leave a review, send a friend, tell a patient, tell a surgeon, tell someone recovering from surgery that they do not have to figure everything out by themselves.
The end of a treatment should feel calm. It should not feel like a checkout trap. It should not feel like a moral test.
I want you to leave with your shoulders down, your nervous system calmer, your swelling supported, and your questions answered. Not with one more awkward financial decision.
My patients already carry enough.
You do not need to tip me. You do not need to wonder. You do not need to feel guilty. You have already chosen to invest in your healing. That is enough. Your thank you is enough. Your trust is enough. Your healing is the work. And I am honored to be part of it.
With care,
Eva Tutic

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specialized, light-touch technique that manually supports lymphatic flow to help manage post-surgical swelling, bruising, and fibrosis. It is performed by certified therapists using gentle, rhythmic movements — not deep tissue pressure. At TheraFlow Health, all MLD is performed by a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) and Certified Plastic Surgery Therapist (CPST).
Book MLD in Virginia BeachYes — when performed by a certified therapist with proper post-surgical training. Eva Tutic holds CLT and CPST credentials and has over a decade of experience in plastic surgery recovery care. She adapts every session to your specific procedure, stage of healing, and surgeon guidelines.
MLD is a medical-grade technique — not a relaxation service. The pressure is far lighter than Swedish or deep tissue massage. The sequencing follows the precise anatomy of the lymphatic system, not muscle groups. A massage marketed as "lymphatic" but performed with typical massage pressure will not produce clinical results.
MLD may begin as early as 48 hours post-operatively — with documented surgeon clearance received at least 24 hours before your appointment. Earlier intervention during the critical inflammatory window may support better swelling management and recovery outcomes.
Active surgical drains are not a contraindication. You may begin MLD with drains still in place. Eva works around drain sites and adapts the protocol accordingly.
Fat transfer procedures (BBL, breast fat transfer, facial fat grafting): MLD over grafted areas is deferred for approximately 2 weeks to allow fat cell viability and early angiogenesis to establish. However, MLD can begin in non-grafted areas during that deferral period — there is no reason to delay full treatment.
It is never too late to begin, but the earlier the better. Consistent early intervention is associated with better tissue outcomes.
Book Post-Surgical MLDEvery patient heals differently, and Eva bases session recommendations on objective measurements and photographs — not a fixed calendar.
As a clinical guideline, Eva looks for a cumulative reduction of 18–20 cm across all measured areas after 3 sessions. This is an overall reduction across the body, not necessarily in any single area. If we reach that benchmark, recovery is progressing well. If not, additional sessions are typically recommended.
A minimum of 3 sessions is the initial clinical framework. Most post-surgical patients benefit from 5 or more sessions during Stage 1, particularly after body contouring, BBL, or abdominoplasty. Rhinoplasty and facial procedures may require fewer sessions concentrated in the first two weeks.
Your session plan is reassessed at every visit based on tissue response, measurements, and photos. Eva will always give you an honest, evidence-based recommendation — not a package upsell.
Book Your First SessionYes, always. Eva works with your surgeon's post-operative instructions and defers to your surgical team on all clinical decisions. Bring any protocols or restrictions from your surgeon to your first session.
Fibrosis is the formation of excess fibrous connective tissue — essentially hardened scar tissue — that forms when inflammatory fluid is not properly cleared during recovery. It can feel like lumps or unevenness under the skin. MLD reduces fibrosis risk by clearing inflammatory fluid before it can solidify.
Learn About Advanced Tissue & Scar TherapyYes. TheraFlow Health carries a curated selection of medical-grade compression garments — exclusively from validated clinical vendors including Marena and Juzo. Every garment has a manufacturer-stated mmHg rating, FDA Class I medical device listing, and is sized from your actual body measurements.
If a specific garment or size is not in stock at the time of your fitting, Eva will ship it directly to your home at no additional handling fee. You will never be sent home without a plan.
A FREE compression garment fitting is included with every garment purchase. A $75 measurement-only fitting is available if you are not purchasing through TheraFlow Health.
Eva also carries medical-grade foam (Lipo Foam, Gray Foam Pad, Komprex), Lymphoderm skincare, silicone scar tape, female urinals, and third-party tested CBD oil for Stage 2 scar management.
Compression & Contour ServicesERAPS — Enhanced Recovery After Plastic Surgery — is a patient-centered recovery framework co-developed by Eva Tutic and her husband, a board-certified plastic surgeon, drawing directly from their combined clinical experience in plastic surgery practice.
ERAPS was adapted from ERAS® (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery), an evidence-based protocol already widely used by surgical teams in hospitals to reduce complications and improve outcomes. Eva recognized that ERAS was clinically excellent but not designed with the patient's recovery journey in mind. ERAPS reframes that clinical structure around the patient — adding compassionate education, empowerment, and individualized recovery support.
ERAPS is not just about MLD. It is a comprehensive 8-pillar recovery philosophy: preoperative education and counseling, risk assessment and mitigation, perioperative nutrition, anesthesia management, pain management, lymphatic and compression therapy, early mobilization, and postoperative follow-up care.
Eva also uses the proprietary Edema Risk Assessment (ERA) tool — developed within the ERAPS framework — to evaluate each patient's individual swelling risk profile and proactively plan session frequency, rather than reacting to problems after they arise.
Meet Eva & Learn About ERAPSYes. Compression is essential after most body contouring and reconstructive procedures. The right garment worn correctly supports fluid drainage, may help support swelling management, and helps tissue conform to its new contour. Eva provides expert compression guidance as part of every post-surgical recovery plan.

See Packages & Payment PlansIn most post-surgical cases, one MLD treatment is not enough to fully address swelling. Manual Lymphatic Drainage helps move excess fluid out of congested areas, but your body is still healing and may continue producing inflammation and fluid after surgery.
I often explain it using a faucet analogy: think of post-surgical swelling like a sink with the faucet turned on. MLD helps the body drain the water out — but if the faucet is still running because your tissues are inflamed and healing, fluid can continue to refill the area. That is why one treatment may help, but it may not be enough to keep swelling down long term. The number of sessions needed depends on the refill rate — meaning how quickly your body is continuing to produce and hold fluid after treatment.
In some cases, clients may even feel or appear more swollen after the first session. This can be normal and does not mean treatment made things worse. It happens because MLD begins to mobilize stagnant fluid, moving it from congested areas into pathways where the body can process and eliminate it. During that transition, swelling may temporarily seem more noticeable before the body has had time to fully clear it.
This is one reason I recommend treatment as a series rather than a one-time session, especially after surgery. Each session builds on the last, helping the body gradually reduce fluid, improve circulation, and support a more efficient recovery.
View Package OptionsNo. TheraFlow Health does not accept tips — and this is a deliberate policy.
Eva made a considered choice not to accept gratuity because the care you receive at TheraFlow Health is a clinical service. Your session price reflects training, experience, time, clinical supplies, documentation, and the full responsibility of caring for your body during a vulnerable stage of recovery. She does not underprice and hope for tips to make up the difference.
You paid for your care. That is enough. Your thank you is enough.
Note: the 3% merchant processing surcharge on credit card payments is not a tip. It is the cost of processing a card payment, disclosed separately. It is not gratuity, and it does not affect your care in any way.
If you would like to support TheraFlow Health, the most meaningful things you can do are leave an honest review, refer a friend or fellow patient, or share Eva's work with someone who needs it.
